Prenatal Care Done Differently
When you think of the word “glow”, you might imagine the smile of a pregnant woman or the brightness of a lighthouse providing direction in the darkness. The word glow brings feelings of warmth, health, and guidance.
Glow! is an innovative and comprehensive program that incorporates wrap around services with enhanced prenatal care. Glow! embraces pregnancy and aims to provide care, guidance, and support to moms-to-be during this very important time in their lives. The goal is to improve the health of Fresno County moms and their babies.
For the next four years, Glow! will be offered as part of the EMBRACE (Engaging Mothers & Babies; Reimagining Antenatal Care for Everyone) study which is looking to determine what type of prenatal care reduces preterm birth, improves maternal mental health and results in greater satisfaction.
Glow! has been modified for telehealth use to better meet the needs of pregnant women during the COVID-19 pandemic.
How does it work?
Moms-to-be with similar due dates come together to receive their prenatal care, support, and education in a virtual group setting. Up to 11 sessions are facilitated by a medical provider and a staff facilitator. Some of the topics covered include nutrition, managing stress and anxiety, labor and delivery, breastfeeding, newborn care, among others. In addition, community resource presentations are incorporated in each session to provide women with information about WIC, dental health, paid family leave, mental health, pediatrics as well as other topics. Group education takes place over Zoom and depending on your doctor’s preference, you may also receive a health check-up on Zoom or in person.
